The World Council of Churches (WCC) is an ecumenical fellowship of churches founded in 1948.

It brings together 350 member churches from all over the world, including Orthodox churches, Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran and Reformed denominations, to promote Christian unity in faith, witness and service for a just and peaceful world.

The headquarters of the WCC is at the Ecumenical Centre, Grand-Saconnex, a unique space for its member churches, and from which is coordinated the programmes and activities conducted together with the member churches and ecumenical partners.

Communication Officer

The WCC is looking for a Communication Officer at 100% who will work as part of the communication team and work as the co-editor for our website. The Communication Officer will provide editorial, strategic, creative and operational support across the work. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the communications are both influential and informative for the full range of our stakeholders. This position will be assigned to work part-time with assembly communication 2020-2021 and will be based at the Ecumenical Centre, Grand-Saconnex. The position will report to the Communication Director.

Fluent in English and ideally having a good knowledge of other languages (Spanish, French or German), the Communication Officer will hold a recognised qualification in communications and will be able to demonstrate relevant experience. Working closely with the Communication Director and the Communication Team, the successful candidate will have responsibility for:

Helping to maintain and build reputation;
Increasing the organisation’s profile across media, and with influencers and organisations;
Supporting staff to make effective use of brand;
Writing press releases, articles and statements;
Drafting, editing and distributing materials for the press, for stakeholders and for ecumenical partners;
Fielding inquiries from stakeholders including journalists, politicians and service users;
Developing, managing, updating, writing and coordinating content for the website;
Maintaining social media accounts ;
Supporting the implementation of a social media strategy;
Helping market and communicate events;
Providing creative, editorial and operational support for communications projects;
Planning/creating multi-media communications materials;
Reporting on and analysing all aspects of communications;
Participating in cross-functional projects;
Keeping up to date on best practice within the ecumenical sector/NGO sector generally and particularly changes to communications innovation, legislation and codes of practice;
Any other responsibilities as requested by the director of communication.



At least seven to ten years’ experience in the field of communication and the ecumenical movement.


University degree (Master) in communications.


Experience from assembly preparations and management communication.

Project management.

Ability to work in a team.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Good time management and organizational skills.

Language skills:

Good command of oral and written English and knowledge of other languages (Spanish, French and German) is an asset.

Computer skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms. Knowledge of publishing software.
